First question that no one here seems to realize needs to be asked--they just automatically ASSUME--is "are you an addict, or are you just someone who took this medication/drug a little too long and ended up dependent?"

The answer to this question will help you move forward and help your doctors/counselors decide how to help you.

First and foremost--despite what people here are telling you...you don't have to SUFFER with withdrawal in order to make it to the other side of this problem! Suffering helps no one! Would you tell someone with an STD that they should suffer with the disease because they had sex, or would you treat them? Would you tell someone who drove too fast in a car and got injured in a crash that they don't deserve treatment...or that they must suffer thru the pain of the injury, despite there being a way to ease it? HELL NO!

If you find that your simply taking the percs to avoid withdrawal or to treat legit pain...but you have no real burning crazy desire every waking moment to be high..then your probably not an addict. What you are is dependent. A simple suboxone withdrawal with a 10-21 day tapered dose will get you off the percs with no withdrawal and no real high to chase....plus your suffering will be minimal. Go to NAABT.org for help with that.

If you wake up each morning and go to sleep each night with only one thing on your mind....if you've lost the ability to find joy in anything but getting and doing opiates....if you feel like your crazy sometimes because you have a repetitive voice in your head that only speaks one language..the language of HIGH...then you might be an addict and your problems are much deeper than just getting off the drug. You may find getting off the drug causes these symptoms to worsen...that your life is unmanageable off and on these drugs...and if thats a case do yourself a favor! Get on medication that treats these crazy obsessive thoughts and at the sametime lets you get back to your life...those meds are Suboxone or methadone (I would suggest Suboxone for a perc user 1 year in)...get your life back on track....learn to live your life without getting high, but without the constant cravings that complete abstinance brings. After you have that tackled, then worry about being completely off meds and drugs....recovery is a slow process but so worth it!

I don't know of a doctor in Miami to help you withdraw from medications. You're going to have to ask your medical doctor for a referral.
Here is what I suggest to get you over the worst part of the withdrawals.
To help with the withdrawals take hot bathes with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts and soak for 30 minutes. The skin is the biggest organ of elimination and this will help pull out the drugs. Use a loofa to clean the pores and this will help pull the drugs out even faster.
I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously.
I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day and 2c. a day of fresh carrot juice, to flush the medicine out of your liver. Taking 500mg of calcium and magnesium twice a day will help you to relax.
Drink chamomile tea throughout the day and evening to help you stay relaxed.
Use a powdered fiber supplement twice daily to pull the drugs out of your intestines where they store.
Two of the questionnaires in this forum did follow this program to withdraw from drugs and it did help. I've enclosed a link where you can read their response to this program.
If you have any further questions please let me know. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

There is not a lot you can do. Someone may tell you to go to a Methadone clinic, which will almost immediately eliminate the withdrawal symptoms, but Methadone is just another opiate and many people have said it is harder to kick than their original addiction. Stay away from the Methadone clinics. You should experience the bad withdrawals for 3-4 days. Get some Immodium for the diarrhea, and maybe go see the doctor if your BP gets too high, since hypertension is a withdrawal side effect. High BP increases the risk of stroke and heart attack. The doctor may be able to give you something to keep it down while you come off the opiates. Other than that, tylenol or advil for the muscle aches, no caffeine, warm baths or soaking in a hot tub may help. Get an OTC sleep aid and try to sleep a little when you can, although this will more than likely be very hard. I have seen someone withdrawal and they had awful anxiety. I am not sure though if a doctor would give you something for that since you have shown a tendency to abuse medications and most anti-anxiety drugs are benzo's, which are also highly addictive. Lots of water, lots of fiber and protein, and then stay away from the pills. You know that you abuse them and after you get through this, remember how hard it was and keep telling yourself that you never want to go through it again.

I just happened to find myself here at this site looking for something else and just read your question. I live in upstate NY and I'm sorry I have no answer to your question, I wish I did. I know others in your situation NOT looking for help. They say the 1st step is realizing you have a problem and that you have done. Try looking in your phone book for some answers- those reactions you are having from not taking the pills is withdralls - you have to grit your teeth and ride it out - there is no other way. you do not want to take a drug to quit a drug. Try saying a prayer to the Universe to help you with this - drink a ton of water too. Try to arrange for some time off from work etc., and above all remember it is all in your mind - it's mind over matter - be strong - pray for strength - and you are one of the lucky ones, only a year - all those pain pills are killers. My poor husband fought it for over 10 years, but he had real reasons - real pain. But an addition, is an addition. They also have those 12 step programs in all communities. My foster daughter in Orlando goes to a meeting almost every day to help her and it does. I will also pray for you too. The best of luck!!!! a friend in NY

Is it a doctor prescribing them to you? If it is then he will help you get off of them. If you a buying them off the street then you can go to any family doctor and they will help. Be care full with the methadone and suboxone. They are just replacements for the percocet. If you are gonna take them I would suggest you just stay on the percs.
